When Snow Flies by Ivan Schlutz
“When the snow flies”
Edition of 12
18" tall x 21" wide 16" deep   plus base

George Catlin, while spending a winter in the Montana snow records that hunters
would look for the buffalo stuck in the large snow drifts and then go hunt them on snow
shoes.  The hunter I show here is wearing a coat made of Hudson Bay trader’s blanket. This
coat was known as a Capote, or “long coat”, it was closely associated with the fur trade.  The
Capote became one of the most sought after trade items,
replacing furs.
